The movie "The Eighth Suspect" adapted from the case was officially released today. The film is directed by Li Zijun and written by Zhou Wenru. Through the restoration and reproduction of crime stories, it attempts to gain insight into complex human nature in real crime and stimulate the audience's attention and reflection on social issues.

In the story, Chen Xinwen (played by Da Peng) recruited a group of fierce bandits, who shot and killed three people in just 2 minutes and stole a huge sum of 15 million yuan. Police represented by Wang Shouyue (played by Lin Jiadong) and He Lan (played by Zhang Songwen) quickly launched a search for evidence, successfully grasping key clues and arresting five robbers, but He Lan unfortunately sacrificed himself in the pursuit process. However, the mastermind behind the case, Chen Xinwen and his cousin Chen Xinnian (played by Sun Yang), disappeared into the vast crowd. Twenty one years later, retired Wang Shouyue still remembers He Lan's sacrifice and the main culprit who has not yet been caught. He saw a seemingly familiar figure in the news video, so he went alone to the border town where the person was located, and finally arrested Chen Xinwen and Chen Xinnian, who had been on the run for 21 years.



The main reason for choosing to adapt this case is that it spans 21 years. Chen Xinwen's prototype is the main culprit of the 'Panyu Money Transport Car Case' back then. We learned during our research that he fled to many places and eventually went to Yunnan. We are curious to know how his mood of escape has changed over such a long period of time? "Li Zijun said.

In the end, the main creator decided to cut into the story from the suspect's starting point. Before writing, the main creative team did a lot of data research work, and the public security organs had limited information available. Zhou Wenru revealed, "We went to Ruili, Yunnan based on records and found the market where the main culprit opened a building materials store. We stood outside the door, looking at the surrounding environment and what the suspect would do here every day.
